Automatic Transmissions

As part of the drivetrain, the assemblage that transfers the power from the engine to the wheels, the transmission is comprised of some of the most complex and intricate machinery in your vehicle. Due to the sophisticated nature of the drivetrain, even minor flaws can quickly escalate into extremely costly repairs. It only takes an untreated oil leak or loose band adjustment to quickly render your vehicle immobile.

We recommend all automatic transmissions are serviced every 12 months, or every 6 months for off-road vehicles.

As clutch and transmission specialists, we can provide comprehensive repairs and servicing, and can happily help you with:

  • Automatic transmission servicing
  • Automatic transmission repairs
  • Torque converters
  • Hydraulic controls
  • Electronic controls
  • Planetary gears
  • Valve body repairs
  • Drive line issues

Clutches and Manual Gearboxes

Using friction control, the clutch disengages the transmission from the engine, allowing different gears to spin at different speeds, allowing the clutch to disengage and re-engage the engine to the transmission without them destroying each other.

Over time the clutch plates will wear and require replacement, or else it will entail serious damage to your engine and transmission.

Even though we’re called Pakenham Automatics, we can happily help you with:

  • Clutch repairs
  • Clutch discs
  • Pivot balls
  • Concentric slave cylinders
  • Clutch covers
  • Thrust bearings
  • Flywheels
  • Pilot bearings
  • Aligning tools
  • Clutch kits

Differentials and Transfer Cases

The differential is a complicated set of gears that allows two wheels on the same axle to rotate at different speeds, allowing your vehicle to turn at speed.

The transmission delivers power to the transfer case, which then splits the power between the front and rear driveshafts, making it a vital for all wheel and 4 wheel drives.

Here at Pakenham Automatics, our staff can happily help you with all differential and transfer case issues.

Transmission Coolers

The cooler you can keep your transmission, the more durable and efficient it becomes. Fitting a transmission cooler has the following benefits:

  • Prolonged transmission lifespan and savings on repairs (a majority of transmission repairs are needed due to overheating)
  • Decrease the strain on your engine’s radiator
  • Less strain on your transmission when extra loads are added (whether permanent upgrades or towing heavy loads)
